I love everything about this post K! And not just because you mention me - that's the cherry on top. So many amazing resources, both on and off Substack. You put so much care and work into creating a manifesto of self care, not for yourself, but to help others take care of themselves. If I haven't said these exact words before, you are the Empress of Empathy and Emotional Intelligence, and if I had the power to knight you, I would! 🥰❤️🥰❤️
Adding to your water tidbit - having a warm glass of water first thing in the morning is amazing for waking up your body and kickstarting your metabolism :)
Thank you for highlighting my article, K. It helps with my struggle to understand why I'm still doing this. So, thank you 😊.
Regarding the morning water, it's been part of my morning routine for 5 years now. Our bodies deserve to get properly hydrated after a long night's sleep. And warm water with some lemon juice and a spoonful of turmeric does the trick for me.
Forgot to share what gets me through the day- While I am new to this forum- (just a couple of months now) I am eating up the talent, generosity, & opportunities to both engage in and learn craft. My self-care also includes “pages” ala “Julia Cameron style,”some days Poetry (& prompts) read to me via video as a part of “the Wild Writing family” (by Laurie Wagner), a short yoga practice, & walking in the woods past tall pines to my favorite Oak. If I’m extra lucky my self care will include laughing with my kiddos, Yummy dinner, snuggles with my Golden, & I almost forgot- using my Merlin bird app. 🙌😂 Just love to see how many species I can pick up in 2 mins or less.
I loved reading this! I need to look into this Merlin app- my son has a bird identification map but an app is next level!! Thank you for sharing and being here Colleen 🐞
This was lovely & chock full of resources & recommendations!!! Thank You!!!
I am thrilled to find I’m already on to quite a few of your recs-
Just love that you are using The Creative Act (a gem I just recently dove into in a Poetry group) as a sort of ‘quasi-tarot daily guide’ (my name for randomly opening to a page & taking in its wisdom- also a fave practice of mine! (I use Mark Nepo’s book “The Awakening” often in this same way.)
Thank you, dear K, for the shout out! You truly are the most beautiful soul, and I love you so! Also, I now have a scalp massager and some shower bombs in my shopping cart, because YES! 🙌
What a great publication name. Thank you for mentioning me. Lord knows I can use more self care, but I am committed to finding more. Secretly excited for my wife to stop pumping so I can escape and go to the gym like I used to instead of playing keep the baby away from the pump lol.
Welcome to dear people pleasers, dear Marc! I bet gym time will come around again sooner than you think … you might miss the games like keeping Myles away from the pump - sounds like a calorie crusher! 😂
Thank you so much for this. Once again, you nail a topic that is so important AND you offer a path to deal with it. Keep up the incredible work and inspiration. You are one of a kind.
Thank you, K! I'm so grateful for you and the support you've shown me!! Love you bigger than the sky! 😍😍😍
Higher than the sky, deeper than the sea 🩵💙
