This was such a good read. I caught myself smiling through the whole thing. It is not just an adorable reflection of precious (and destructive) moments with your son in the sanctuary of your home. It is also resistance to the notion of neatness and put-togetherness. Society has dictated what neatness is, even in the privacy of one's home. Welcome the mess especially the ones that bring such meaningful moments with Augie. Celebrate with the lids off! For the rest of the missing sharpies resting in peace/pieces somewhere, they will reappear one day, when you are meant to come across them and have a moment of nostalgia.

Just today, Finley and I took out my very old Whitman's Chocolate box, which has not had chocolates in it for many years now, but is, instead, the chosen receptacle for my Sharpie collection. This is special, because normally we color with her washable markers. But not today, no TODAY ONLY SHARPIES WOULD DO. Why? I really don't know. We just had very detailed work to do, and she's getting more trustworthy with the permanents, you know? All morning, we got high on sharpie fumes, and it was delightful, and then I came on here and this lovely post was waiting and again, this feels like cross-orbital magic. ✨✨✨😭
