Happy Friday, DPP!
Before you get too excited about a DOUBLE newsletter week; don’t! I’m publishing at the pace that works for my life right now, and 1x a week (Tuesday’s darling) fits just wright right for now.
Today’s newsletter is just a little treat that my Oma (Grandma in German) COMPOSED for us. Oma is a nonagenarian. Anyone making it 9 decades on this planet is doing something right. While this introduction will be my laughable attempt at summing up her credentials- trust that these lyrics come from a wise woman. A graduate of Wellesley College, she has written and published two books (I’ll link them below), she’s a composer and has archived thousands of originals, a choir director, and she lives in Palm Beach, Florida- with other extremely elder cool creatives. Oh yes, and she’s also a poet (who know’s it).
Oma emailed me this three verse song for Dear People-Pleasers. I, unfortunately, did not inherit her musical genius, so I don’t know how the song sounds. If you happen to have the musical bone- consider this your formal invitation to put a tune to her lyrics. She may tell me to tell you that your idea of music is a raging dumpster fire- but- other than that, you’ve got nothin’ to lose!
Without further adieu, Ladies & Gentlemen, I present:
OPEN YOUR HEART
By: Marilyn Snyder AKA: Oma
Open your heart,
Let the love in.
And you will start
to feel the healing begin.
Hatreds will vanish,
fears will depart.
Soon you will trust,
if you will just
open your heart.
Open your mind.
Let the light in.
And you will find
your understanding begins.
Learn to be patient,
learn to be kind.
Others may know,
listen and grow.
Open your mind.
Open your life.
Light the joy in.
Banish the strife
and hear the music begin.
Laughter will help you
to make a new start.
Open your life,
open your mind,
open your heart.
Thank you, Omes, for sharing your heart with us. I will treasure this for all time.
